Pipe burst and open hole continue to cause danger on Jan Smuts Avenue
A leaking pipe and a large hole on Jan Smuts Avenue in Parkwood have been left unattended for weeks, putting pedestrians and motorists at risk.
A suspected pipe burst along Jan Smuts Avenue in Parkwood has been leaking for weeks, causing water to flow into a large, open hole that extends into the road.
The site, near a busy intersection, is creating serious traffic problems. The hole, surrounded by rubble and water, narrows the road and forces cars to slow down or change lanes. This is affecting the flow of traffic on a main route for many road users.

The water continues to leak steadily into the trench, with no visible effort to contain it. The longer it goes unrepaired, the higher the risk of the road surface deteriorating further, or the hole expanding.
Johannesburg Water and Johannesburg Roads Agency have been contacted for comment. This story will be updated once a response is received.
