DP World Lions Cricket is hungry, prepared, and determined to retain its domestic dominance, from cubs to lions.
The Pride of Jozi is prepared for the 2025/26 season, which launched, for DP World Lions Cricket, on September 18 at the DP World Wanderers Stadium.
The Pride, friends, fans, families, and key stakeholders were in attendance at the morning’s festivities, admiring sky-divers, dancers, freebies, and a fashion show which showcased the pride’s new kit.

Last month, the Central Gauteng Lions concluded their 2024/25 season with the unions best financial results in the past 12 years. Add to that the pride’s three domestic trophies, 11 2024/25 CSA Award trophies, and the Sports Organisation of the Year Trophy, which they won for the second consecutive year, it was quite a season.

Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright explained that the teams enjoyed being the country’s most successful union, and that it was their energy for excellence that powered them forward. “We are financially, mentally, and physically fit, from the bottom, through to the top, boardroom to boundary. The people of our pride find purpose in playing, love to positively impact the lives of others, and genuinely believe in the power of sport to do good.”

In recognition, and celebration, of the union’s history of excellence, the #LegacyOfChampions campaign was launched. Building from the bottom up, through the Telkom talent acceleration programme, the next generation is hard at work.
Leaf-Wright added that their #LegacyOfChampions campaign was about dreaming big, acknowledging the successes of those gone before you, the greatness inside of you, and the ability you have to change the lives of those around you.

The DP World Lions women will start their season with the Pro50 Series on October 4, versus the Dolphins at the DP World Wanderers Stadium, while the DP World Lions men will kick off the season with the 4-day domestic series, followed by the T20 Challenge from the end of October.
The Protea women play at the DP World Wanderers Stadium on December 19, with the SA20 starting soon after on New Year’s Day at the stadium.
