Renovated library inspires young readers at H.A. Jack Primary School

A once-tired space has been reborn into a vibrant world of stories and learning, as H.A. Jack Primary School celebrates the grand opening of its beautifully renovated library.

The newly renovated library was officially opened at H.A. Jack Primary School in Highlands North on October 23, marking a milestone moment for both the school and its long-time partner, Communities Assisting Schools (CAS).

The project, a collaboration between the school and CAS, forms part of the organisation’s ongoing commitment to improving literacy and learning.

CAS, a local non-profit that has supported H.A. Jack for several years, also runs a literacy programme at the school aimed at strengthening reading and comprehension among learners.

The unveiling of the library was a joyful occasion, attended by teachers, parents, learners, sponsors and members of the media. The once outdated space has been transformed into a bright, inviting room filled with colourful shelves, new furniture and hundreds of storybooks waiting to spark young imaginations.

“This project represents more than just a renovation; it’s a renewal of hope,” said Tania Watkins, director of CAS. “For many of these children, this will be their first real access to a library.

We wanted to create a space where they can read, explore and believe in the power of their own potential.”

The renovated library is expected to serve as the heartbeat of the school, a safe and inspiring place for learners to study, read and dream.

As Watkins added, “When a child opens a book, they open a door to the world. That’s what this library is all about.”
