Parktown Boys soccer captain inspires teammates through resilience and leadership, on and off the field

After overcoming a long, and difficult, injury last year, Kaden Poole, first team soccer captain ay Parktown Boys' High School, leds his team with belief, discipline, and heart through their strongest season yet.

For Kaden Poole, matric learner at Parktown Boys’ High School and captain of the first team soccer side, leadership has never been about giving orders. For him, it is about setting an example that others want to follow. Whether he is calmly directing play on the field or lifting spirits in the changing room, Kaden’s steady presence has helped shape, not only his team’s success, but also its character.

“I see being captain as a big responsibility,” said the 18-year-old thoughtfully. “It’s about staying positive, even when games get tough. My teammates look up to me, so I can’t let my head drop.”

Kaden’s love for football began when he was just six years old. A devoted Manchester United supporter, he has always admired players who combine talent with teamwork and humility. Those same values have become the foundation of his own approach to the game.

His journey has not been without challenge. Last year, a serious ankle injury kept him off the pitch for six long months, testing both his patience and determination. “It was mentally and physically tough. I missed out on an important season, and worried I wouldn’t come back the same, but my dad reminded me that I could come back stronger, and I did.”

That resilience shone through as Kaden led Parktown’s first team through an unforgettable season this year. Under his captaincy, the team exceeded expectations, advancing through tournaments and restoring pride to the school’s football programme. “For a while, we didn’t get the recognition we deserved, but this year we proved that Parktown football can stand tall again. We believed in each other.”

One of his favourite memories was a thrilling victory over St John’s College, a match that demanded complete focus and unity from every player. “We stood together, stayed calm and got the win.”

Off the field, Kaden balances his sporting commitments with his academics, and has a strong interest in media and business management. “I’d like to stay connected to sport. Maybe through sports media or management one day.”

What Kaden values most, however, is not just the matches or trophies but the sense of brotherhood that has grown among the players. “These guys are my family. We’ve built something special, and that’s what football at Parktown is all about.”
