Praboa lead first clean-up of 5th Avenue Park and Braamfontein Spruit

Residents and business owners joined forces on a cloudy morning to clean up 5th Avenue Park and the Braamfontein Spruit, marking the start of an ongoing community initiative.

Parkhurst residents and business owners came together for the first community clean-up of 5th Avenue Park and the Braamfontein Spruit, organised by the Parkhurst Residents and Business Owners Association (Praboa) in partnership with the 5th Avenue Parkcare group.

Despite the cloudy weather, volunteers arrived early, equipped with gloves, refuse bags and caps, ready to tackle litter and improve the condition of local green spaces.

The clean-up focused on collecting waste, removing polystyrene from the river and restoring areas affected by illegal dumping and neglect.

The event forms part of a broader community-driven campaign to protect the environment, improve safety and encourage residents to take pride in their surroundings. Organisers said the strong turnout showed a growing commitment to keeping Parkhurst clean and well cared for.

Another clean-up is planned for the last weekend of March, in partnership with Fine and Country, the Parks and residents. Community members are encouraged to get involved and contribute to building a cleaner, safer and more welcoming neighbourhood.
