The Bioscope in Milpark hosts media for a special screening of Ghost Elephants
The film explores both the physical search for DNA evidence and the deeper philosophical pull of chasing a near-mythical creature.
An intimate crowd of media professionals, digital creators, and wildlife lovers filled The Bioscope for a special preview screening of Ghost Elephants, hosted by National Geographic.
The documentary, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Werner Herzog, follows South African National Geographic explorer Dr Steve Boyes on a decade-long quest into Angola’s remote highland plateaus.
His mission was to trace the origins of the so-called ‘ghost elephants’, a possible undiscovered lineage of African elephants believed to be linked to the legendary giant specimen known as the Fénykövi elephant.
Blending sweeping landscapes with indigenous knowledge and scientific inquiry, the film explores both the physical search for DNA evidence and the deeper philosophical pull of chasing a near-mythical creature.

Herzog’s contemplative storytelling style frames the expedition as more than a conservation mission, inviting viewers to consider whether some mysteries are meant to remain partly unresolved.

Guests at the Milpark screening described the film as visually arresting and emotionally layered, praising its balance between hard science and reflective narrative.
