The clean-up was supported by Fine and Country. Representative Lesley Covile said, “The park’s constant use by the community increases its value through engagement and creates opportunities for community members to connect.”

About 15 volunteers took part, including members from Bubele Africa Trust and the CraigPark Residents Association.
Mike Elliott and chairperson Albert de Bondt highlighted the importance of collaboration between neighbouring communities to care for shared spaces.
They said, “There is collaboration between two residents’ associations for shared spaces, with a focus on Hamilton Park, Avenue Park and 5th Avenue Park, and an effort to achieve synergy and mutual support.”

They also raised concerns about low membership levels in Craigpark and encouraged residents to contribute, with fees starting at R100.

With City Parks not always able to keep up with maintenance, residents are stepping in to support their environment.
Praboa’s Pauline Borton encouraged more residents to get involved in future clean-ups.
By the end of the day, the park was visibly cleaner, leaving volunteers proud of their efforts.
