Second accident at Jan Smuts and Rothesay excavation
A taxi carrying passengers swerved into the excavation as planned repairs are delayed by rain.
A second accident has occurred at the longstanding excavation on the corner of Jan Smuts and Rothesay avenues, raising ongoing concerns about the safety of the site.

The latest incident took place on the morning of April 13 when a taxi carrying a full load of passengers swerved into the excavation. According to an eyewitness, the driver struggled to brake before losing control of the vehicle and veering off the road.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency had scheduled repairs on the excavation to begin on April 13. However, due to the rain, the work will likely be delayed.

This is the second accident reported at the site. On February 13, a vehicle also plunged into the excavation during wet weather conditions.
