Craighall author shares powerful story of survival and healing in Memoriez

Johan Meiring’s deeply personal novel explores pain, forgiveness, and resilience, inspiring readers to reclaim their own lives.

Craighall author Johan Meiring is turning a lifetime of hardship into a message of hope through his autobiographical fictional novel, Memoriez.

The book offers a deeply personal and emotional account of a man’s journey through resentment, abuse, and bitterness from childhood into adulthood.

Through life changing milestones, including marriage, divorce, difficult choices, and the shadow of suicide, Meiring reveals both the scars left by pain and the strength built through survival.

Meiring began writing the book in 2008 during a challenging chapter of his life. The project took on even greater meaning after the loss of his mother to suicide in 2009, an experience that profoundly shaped the story and its themes.

While Memoriez draws heavily from Meiring’s own life, he says small fictional elements were added to help bring the story to life. Written from a first-person perspective, the novel balances honesty with compelling storytelling.

Initially self-published, the book gained momentum through word of mouth before expanding to eBook platforms, Amazon, and audiobook formats. Meiring says one of his greatest passions is ensuring the book reaches people who need it most, often giving away copies to those facing personal struggles.

At its heart, Memoriez is about resilience and the power of choice.

Meiring reflects on painful experiences, including battles with alcohol and broken relationships, as moments that ultimately became turning points towards wisdom, courage, and renewal.

Forgiveness is another powerful thread throughout the book. After years of anger following his mother’s death, Meiring says he came to understand the importance of releasing bitterness and remembering the love that remained.

He describes writing the novel as a therapeutic process, and hopes readers who feel lonely, broken, or overwhelmed may find comfort in its pages. Many have already responded emotionally, saying the story helped them confront their own pasts and see that healing is possible.

Looking ahead, the Craighall writer hopes to publish more books and hopes his story continues to remind others that even the darkest experiences can lead to light.
