Sandton SPCA Market Day draws crowds despite cold weather

Cold and cloudy conditions did not deter visitors as Sandton SPCA’s Market Day saw strong community support for a worthy cause.

The Sandton SPCA hosted its Market Day at the Old Edwardian Society on April 25, attracting a steady flow of visitors despite cold and overcast weather conditions.

The event brought together families, animal lovers and members of the community for a day focused on supporting animal welfare while enjoying a range of activities and attractions.

More than 70 stalls were on offer, featuring artisanal goods, handcrafted products, unique gifts and a variety of pet-related items.

Food vendors provided a selection of meals and refreshments, offering visitors a chance to warm up while exploring the market.

A dedicated children’s entertainment area included games and a jumping castle, while a photo booth, raffles and an adoption drive contributed to the day’s activities.

Sandton SPCA general manager Nick Smith said the response from the community was encouraging and highlighted the importance of such initiatives.

He added that the organisation valued its partnership with the Old Edwardian Society and hoped the Market Day would grow into a larger annual event.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the SPCA’s outreach sterilisation programme in Alexandra, which aims to improve animal welfare and support local communities.

Overall, the Market Day was considered a success, with strong community support and a positive turnout reinforcing its potential to grow into a key annual event on the local calendar.
