Norwood SAPS raid burnt house in search of suspects
With full knowledge of the element that resides at the house, Norwood SAPS has intensified visibility at the property, and are carrying out regular raids in order to find suspects.
An operation in Norwood on May 5, saw officers raid a burnt house at the corner of 7th Street and 6th Avenue in Orange Grove.
The house is a known hiding place for the criminal element in the area. Norwood management and officials commended members who bravely entered the house and exposed the criminality.

“Upon the officers’ arrival, 13 men and women, aged between 25 to 35, who lived in that burnt house were found,” Warrant officer Eric Masotsha said.
“The police officers identified themselves to the dwellers and asked to searched them. Permission was granted.”
During the search, SAPS members found one suspect wanted for house breaking and theft. After the suspect was verified, a formal arrest was made and the suspect was detained.

Masotsha urged the community to be SAPS’ eyes and ears. He said that, a few months ago, there was a murder case in the area.

The suspects were traced to the same abandoned, burnt house, and brought to book. After that discovery, and the more recent arrest, the Norwood Police Station has now intensified its visibility at the property, carrying out regular raids in search of possible suspects.
The arrested suspect will appear before the court in due course, with Norwood SAPS ready to oppose bail, as the suspect is a repeat offender.
