This is a response to the article, Out of favour, published week ending 19 July.
I write this letter with great disappointment. I am a youth member in ward 73 who was born and bred in Orange Grove. I have lived here my entire life up to date. It’s quite sad to find that when there is someone out there who is willing to fight against the ills of society on behalf of the voiceless people, then other people do not appreciate the contribution made by such people.
Stanley Letsoalo received a blazing attack from the Democratic Alliance (DA) pending the article. I find it low and disgusting that the DA would stoop to a level of political toddlers, while there are community-related matters that need serious attention.
It’s foolish of the DA to come out with guns blazing ‘metaphorically so’ in defence of the ward councilor Marcell Ravid. I read the article quite carefully and from where I stand, there was no where it stated that Stanley Letsoalo wanted to politicise matters. Yet the DA wants to turn this into a political war. And of which it’s not relevant to the pending matter.
We want Ravid gone as residents of this ward and we will support the leadership of the Orange Grove Community Forum. We want to dismiss all attempts to deal with Stanley Letsoalo and his collective. It was members of this community that put their trust in the non-racist, and non-sexist, forum where every member of the community is represented.
We will stop at nothing until Ravid and her collective step down. We need a ward committee that is composed of all races, gender balanced, young, and adequate people. The reality is that in our ward we have complex issues that need to be addressed such as housing, unemployment, recreation, crime, and bylaw enforcement.
We are not interested in how Ravid is allegedly one of the best councilors in the city, because to us that remains a fallacy.
We remain firm on our position. Marcell Ravid must go.
