Pirates Bowls members come out shantjies competition’s semi-finals
Pirates Bowls Club hosted bowlers of all ages for the semi-finals of the shantjies competition, their social bowls competition played amongst their members.
The lawns at the Pirates Bowls Club were busier than usual on June 28, as members competed in the club’s shantjies, a social and casual bowls competition.

Pirates’ members, draped in their membership t-shirts, kept their eyes on the jack, while maintaining their stance on the mats to ensure that they bowled correctly.

Kibi Ramatsuma, in his second year of bowling, said the friendly competition was tough, but fun. “Today’s competition was difficult because I played against a man who was last year’s champion. I did my best, although I ended up losing against my partner.”

Last year’s winner was Mark McManus, and he said playing against Ramatsuma was challenging. “Kibi has only been playing for a year, but has superb talent. He gave me a good challenge and it was fun overall.”
Pirates Club social bowls takes place every Sunday from 09:00 to 12:30 and is open to all ages.
There is also a first-class café on site that provides hot beverages and healthy breakfasts, plus an outdoor play facility for children to enjoy.
