South African skater joins Disney ice tour
JOBURG - An on-ice celebration of 100 years of Disney's magic at the Coca-Cola Dome will have a dash of local flavour added to it in the form of Nicole Rudolph.
Disney on Ice production company Feld Entertainment announced that the Cape Town-born ice skater will join the 47-strong international cast for the South African tour this year.
Speaking on behalf of the production company, publicist Debra de Souza said that Rudolph joined Feld Entertainment in 2011 and had since travelled extensively across the USA as part of the Disney on Ice presents Let’s Celebrate! cast.
“Rudolph is ecstatic to join Disney on Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic, especially in time to join the show’s forthcoming tour to Johannesburg and Cape Town,” said De Souza.
The skater first took to the ice at the age of seven, and trained under Barbera Anne Hawkes and Datin Broodryk in Goodwood, Cape Town.
The established solo and synchronised skater also managed to graduate from school while she competed full time, and learned the tricky art of the ice dancer in less than a year.
“I am always filled with joy when I’m on the ice,” said Rudolph.
“It’s my passion, and I’m able to express that through my performances.”
She added that she wants audiences to feel what she feels, and to show them “nothing less than pure enjoyment”.
“I hope they feel the true beauty and passion of the sport,” said Rudolph.
“Dare to dream. Challenge yourself, don’t give up, and always expect hiccups. Set your goals super high – Even if you don’t reach the top, you have probably got further than you otherwise would have.”
Rudolph will join Mickey and Minnie Mouse and their friends from Mulan, The Lion King, Pinocchio, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Toy Story for this grand celebration from 11 until 20 July at the Coca-Cola Dome, Northriding.
