Why you should vote for The Kiffness to open the city
JOBURG – THE race for the band that will open the Vodacom In The City festival is on!
After an intense judging session, this year’s panel whittled down the entries to four finalists: The Kiffness, The Plastics, P.H. Fat, and Bye Beneco.
It is now up to music fans to decide which of these four bands will be named the Open The City winner and share the stage with international headliners including MGMT at Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown, on 3 October.
Melodic electronica duo The Kiffness (David Scott and Mvelo Shandu AKA Black Norris) told City Buzz why they should be chosen to Open the City:
Describe the band’s energy and sound in one sentence.
Quirky and jazzy instrumentation fused with deep grooving house beats.
Why should people vote for you to Open the City?
We made this 8-bit cover of MGMT – Kids, and I drew a picture of a potato:

If you are chosen to Open the City, what can fans expect from your set?
Fans can expect uninhibited dancing and nothing short of the kiffest vibe. We’d probably also open our set with our 8-bit cover of MGMT… That would be fun.
Three of the four finalist bands are based in Cape Town. Is it time for The Kiffness to consider moving to Joburg?
We have thought about it, but we’d miss the mountain too much, LOL.
To vote for The Kiffness, visit the Vodacom In The City website or SMS ‘KIFFNESS’ to 48477 before 12 September.
Standard SMS rates and terms and conditions apply.
