Elaine Hirschowitz’s No More Tears Solo Exhibition
PARKHURST – Guests were greeted with cheese, crackers and champagne as Elaine Hirschowitz opened her new exhibition entitled No More Tears at the Halifax Art gallery.
The <ct:Italic>No More Tears<ct:> art exhibition, opened on 23 October, features work by renowned artist Elaine Hirschowitz’s and signifies the end of her struggles with cancer.
With a degree in clinical psychology, she pursued her degree in fine arts at the time when her battle with cancer had just begun. At that time, her art featured many pieces with “dripping colours”, which could have been interpreted by some as her tears after working with intellectually and emotionally troubled artists. Now, after 21 years as a clinical psychologist and after a number of surgeries, Elaine can say this collection signifies no more tears in her life.
Walter Oltmann, renowned sculptor, opened the exhibition with a heart warming speech about his journey with Elaine.
“Some of my family said that doing a solo exhibition was my way of boasting and blowing my own trumpet, but really, doing a solo exhibition is like getting undressed in public,” said Elaine as she explained the nerves she felt at the opening of the exhibition.
Elaine feels art speaks for itself and the viewers should be able to interpret it as they see it. It can be seen that her work is inspired by movement, dance, birds and these motifs are seen specifically in her pieces entitled <ct:Italic>Let’s Dance <ct:>and <ct:Italic>Free to Fly.<ct:><ct:Italic>
