Elle’s rising star designers light up the runway

MELROSE ARCH – Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Melrose Arch provided the lavish venue for the final round of the runway show, Elle's Rising Star Designer Awards 2014.

Elle, in association with Mr Price and presented by African Fashion International, hosted the final round of their Rising Star Designer competition on 29 October. The young designers Nadia Viljoen, Kelli Both, Frances Pauls, Charis Dawson, Michelle van der Westhuizen and Tamara Cherie Dysin were mentored and supervised by only the best in fashion.

The girls, who were overjoyed to be at the final round of the competition, described the competition as an “opportunity of a lifetime”, but also said it was no easy task. “It took hard work to get here,” they agreed.

The girls had a few tips for future competitors, too. “Stay true to your style and your aesthetic.”

Nick Coutts, last year’s winner of the Elle Rising Star Designer competition, also debuted a nine-look fashion line on the night, along with the six finalists from this year.

By the end of the night it was revealed that Tamara Cherie Dysin is the new Elle Rising Star Designer of 2014. “Tamara stood out among the finalists for her flair in interpreting contemporary and historical international trends,’ says Gambade. “She delivered her own vision of clean, sharp lines softened by the use of luxurious fabrics.”

There’s a very modern edge to the looks she presented, complemented by classic finishes and fascinating detail. We look forward to seeing Tamara’s talent blossom.”
