By children, for children
PARKTOWN – The National Children's Theatre will host a new play performed by children for children. The Wizard of Oz will find its home in Parktown from 8 to 12 December.
The multi-talented singer and actor, Yamikani Mahaka-Phiri will be performing in the show along with his much younger co-stars, child actors Hhloniphile and Khawulani Myaka.
“I really love those guys. They’re all extremely talented,” Yamikani said. “It’s my first time working with kids and they’re really professional. It takes a little longer, but once they’ve got it, they’ve got it.”
He explained that the story they’re telling their audiences is something “beautiful” and “unexpected” and their story line stays true to the book, rather than the movies.
The show is no child’s play explains Yamikani, “Rehearsals begin from 10am and end at 6pm everyday.” With such grueling hours and the effort put in by all members of the team, there’s no way that the show could possibly disappoint its audiences.
Follow the yellow brick road to the magic land of the National Children’s Theatre in Parktown, Johannesburg. A storm is blowing there and soon it will give rise to a mighty twister that will transport audiences to the magical Land of Oz from 10 November to 21 December 21.
