Not just a pretty-boy

JOBURG - Dubbed by his new reality TV show The Real Jozi A-listers, and as a model and pretty-boy, Maps Maponyane is more than just good looks and irresistible charm.

Born into the shadow of a legend, renowned soccer star Marks Maponyane, Maps has built an empire of his own.

With a list of credits on his hypothetical CV, which when recited sounds more like a compilation of short stories, Maps has really created a brand around himself.

“I hate the “B” word. Brand. I hate it [when] referring to a human being,” says Maps.

Although, it’s definitely difficult not to recognise this accomplished young man as a brand, with such impressive titles to his name such as fashion designer, image consultant and script writer. He’s accomplished much more than most people his age, but don’t be fooled into thinking that his dad got him to where he is. He started out like any other kid, working his way through varsity with a part-time job at Aca Joe.

Now an educated and well-travelled young man, who also happens to speak French, he’s not only doing big things in South Africa. He is currently the South African liaison for a TV show he works on that airs in France, which details the most interesting things to do when visiting South Africa. This happens to be only one of the many projects he’s working on at the moment and we managed to snag some exclusive details about an upcoming project that he’ll be taking to the public very soon. It will be a blog – a “vlog” (video blog) rather, that will run like a show where Maps gives young men grooming advice and will include everything from fashion and grooming. It’s Maps’ very own step-by-step guide on how to get dressed in the morning.

Some of the terms his fans have used to describe him are nurturing, funny and an all-round nice guy – so maybe that tells the world something about nice guys: they don’t always finish last.
