Move over Al Gore, Kip Andersen’s has news for you
JOBURG – THE Bioscope's night crawlers were treated to a terrifying, but enlightening, film about the future of our earth and the things that "the man" is hiding from the public – a Cowspiracy.
Cowspiracy, by Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn, is a documentary aimed at educating the greater public on issues of the earth’s sustainability. We’ve all heard about meat-free-Monday, and most of us casually brush it off as “some vegetarian stuff”, but little do we realise the motivation behind the movement.
In the film, Kip explains that his passion for saving the earth came from viewing Al Gore’s documentary An Inconvenient Truth. The documentary inspired him to embark on his own journey to enlightenment on the state of the earth, but during his journey he found out that Al Gore had omitted important information about the real threat to the environment.
His journey aims to find out how pollution and the use of fossil fuels can be reduced in order to save the world, and later realises that what’s really harming the planet is not fossil fuels or pollution, but animal agriculture. Animals that we farm to eat (pigs, chickens and cows especially) produce the most harmful substances to the planet – more than any pollution – and what Kip discovers is that none of the international “green” companies are willing to say anything about it. Conspiarcy? No, Cowspiracy.
After financial backers pulled out of making of the movie, once Kip had dug too deep, the film was finally ready to be aired and still faces many challenges of cinemas not wanting to play it on the big screen.
