Getting to know The Muses
JOBURG - The Muses, proudly South African all-girl instrumentalists, are taking South Africa by storm.
Ashley Bodill, Mia Loock, Laetitia Van Wyk and Ruby Ngoasheng make up The Muses, along with manager and co-founder of the group Olivia Kotze.
When added up, the ladies have almost 40 years of musical instrument experience between them, which could only make for extremely well rounded performances and instrumental work.
The ladies have released three albums thus far, the third which was recently released called Pop on Strings. Covering hit songs, their sound is still very unique and what they do on their string instruments is unlike any other female musical group in South Africa at the moment.
“If you’ve listened to the album, you can hear that we all have our classical training, but we’re not a classical pop quartet. We’re an electrical pop quartet that is classically trained,” explained Olivia.
“Our latest album has more of a rock edge, but with a classical twist.”
The girls explained that their performances are quite physical and they do try to keep healthy, but no matter how much they gym, it’s never the same as when they get on stage. Their lively and upbeat sounds and performances make for a very enjoyable experience.
