Stand up for POPArt and Mojak
JOBURG - Mojak Lehoko and Mo Mothebe treated POPArt Theatre guests to a stand-up comedy show, on the weekend, that kept them in stitches.
POPArt (People of Performing Art) is a bite-sized theatre that showcases freshly-ground performances by the city’s own up-and-coming artists, and was the venue that housed Mojak’s four nights of performances.
Joburg’s up-and-coming neighbourhood, Maboneng Precinct, was lit with excited murmurs for the first night of Mojak Lehoko’s stand-up comedy show How did I get here.
Audiences were greeted by Mo Mothebe, who was the opening act of the show. In no way did he make an opening act seem like a build up to anything better. He gave a stand-up comedy performance fit for a headliner.
Following Mo was Mojak who touched on topics far and wide and kept the crowd utterly amused throughout the 50-minute show. His style of comedy is very interactive and kept the crowd on their toes in anticipation of what topic and which joke was to follow.
The show was thoroughly enjoyed by all except one member who looked unimpressed, and with whom Mojak interacted with during the show. “You just have to carry on – it happens,” explained Mojak when asked about the lady who refused to laugh. “The rest of the crowd was enjoying it, so you never know whether it was you who offended her or if it was something else. You keep going.”
Audience members left the theatre unable to stop laughing.
