Newtown Junction launches December festivities

JOBURG - Newtown Junction, Joburg's fabulous new mall, celebrated the launch of the festive season in style.

Invited guests turned up at Newtown Junction in significant numbers to learn a bit about the building of the mall and what it has to offer.

A marquee with sets and stages was set up near the fountains in the mall for performances and fashion shows by the city’s very own talents.

The performances included a recital by emcee, rapper, poet and jack of all trades Bongani Mathebula, sweet vocals from Cookham 32, the cultural styles of the Dinaledi Tsa Soweto Cultural Group and drum beats from Brent Harris and Thee Jam.

Not only was there place for performers, but street vendors and artists were also invited to showcase their talent, artworks, craft and street culture to visitors.

James Ehlers was the guest of honour who spoke on behalf of the property developers of Newtown Junction, Atterbury Property Holdings. He explained that the establishment of the mall had brought back a sense of security, safety and value to the immediate area, as well as the surrounding areas.

The restaurants and food courts in the mall will only officially be opened at the end of March next year.
