Living the dream in Joburg
JOBURG - Joburg is the city of gold and the land of opportunities; it is the place where your dream of becoming a model is closer than you think.
Artists like A.K.A and Cassper Nyovest are just two of the handful of South African musicians who have changed the hip-hop and rap music scene in the country.
This has not only opened up opportunities for them to expand in the music industry, but it has also created a place for budding music producers, music video models and make-up artists. The music industry has opened up an array of never-before-needed positions surrounding the production of music and music videos in and around Joburg.
The life of a music video model is fast paced and nerve racking at times, but it is also oodles of fun.
On arrival at the hired-out venue or studio, the models first get acquainted with each other, following which they are taken to hair and make-up one after the other. After make-up, they are then expected to present their wardrobe options to the director of the video, who then decides which look will be used for each scene.
After being taken to the video filming location, models are then introduced to the artist and begin shooting the video.
“The best part for us models is when lunch time comes around,” said video vixen Robyn Africa.
The artists, models and crew take a break during the day and devour what could only be described as a great lunch. Once eaten, it is straight back to work until filming is finished.
So maybe the glamorous life of a model is in fact all that it is cracked up to be.
