Performing artists unite for a cause
JOBURG - Performing artists united in Braamfontein to spread the word of the performing arts, as well as an upcoming arts festival.
Members of the media were invited to Braamfontein to view a sneak peak of just three of the performing artists who will be performing in the festival.
The lead was taken by Fana Tshablala who forms a part of the Forgotten Angle Theatre Collaborative.
His highly interactive and emotional dance performance captivated his audience and allowed for journalists and dancers to become a part of the same art, even if it was only for a short time.
The next performers were a group called Moving Into Dance Mophatong who call their style Afrofusion – a unique amalgamation of both indigenous and contemporary cross-cultural South African dance, music and ritual with Western contemporary dance forms.
The company consists of dancers who are versatile performers and skilled teachers who maintain a standard of professional excellence in performance – whether in theatre or outdoors.
They hold interactive Edudance and Afrofusion workshops, school performances, lecture demonstrations and open rehearsals and work with South African choreographers Vincent Sekwati Mantsoe, Gregory Vuyani Maqoma and Sylvia Magogo Glasser.
The third dancer of the afternoon was Sonia Radebe, a private performer, who was also interactive with her audience – telling a story of a child trapped in a broken home.
The award-winning contemporary dancer was the performer and choreographer of Inception which premiered at the Dance Umbrella Festival 2011 and received an invitation from the Global Dance Alliance in Germany.
