Up close with Allan Shenton

PARKHURST - With two South African awards under their belt, it's clear that the uniquely South African band Zebra and Giraffe are doing something right.

And if that’s not enough awards, the lead guitarist can now boast about being the second runner-up for most epic beard, a title which he picked up at the pinknic that was held on 24 January in Parkhurst.

“I actually cut my hair in January this year, so it is definitely the product I use,” said Allan Shenton about his magnificent beard.

The band has had huge success on radio locally, and Shenton is very modest about the bands success. “We really are just fortunate that our music is successful on radio,” he said. Despite the band’s radio success, Shenton is quick to clarify that the band is ultimately an alternative rock band and not a pop band.

The band plans to focus their attention on Europe, Austria, Germany and Switzerland this year.

“We hope to break into the European market,” said Shenton.

When asked if there would be any collaborations in the future, Shenton explained that none were in the pipeline, “We do not do collaborations as they tend to water down the original product,” said Shenton.

On the topic of love and marriage, the guitarists heart has already been taken.
