A gentleman’s wager ends in success
PARKTOWN – Two weeks of hard work behind the camera paid off for managing director of Kaya FM.
Who can forget Jude Law’s Johnnie Walker Blue Label advert in which he challenges Giancarlo Giannini to a gentleman’s wager for the ownership of his beautiful sailboat.
Kaya FM and Gallery Momo stepped up to the Johnnie Walker Blue Label gentleman’s wager campaign, which began in November last year, with managing director of Kaya FM, Greg Maloka, challenging Gallery Momo owner, Monna Mokoena, to a gentleman’s wager for the ownership of his coveted 1963 250 SE Coupé Mercedes Benz.
Maloka took to the task wasting no time to win the rare Mercedes Benz and working closely with South African commercial photographer, Siphiwe Mhlambi of African Skies Design, to do just that.
The task at hand required that Maloka reached 500 signatures to show the 500 people who visited Gallery Momo to view his collection of pieces which were centred around the vintage car up for grabs.
On 13 February, Johnnie Walker and Gallery Momo held an event to reveal the results of the competition between the two gentlemen, only for them to discover that Maloka surpassed his target by over 300 signatures.
With a heavy heart, Mokoena handed over the keys to his prized possession to Maloka, who was the winner of the wager.
“Not many of us have a boat, but all of us have something that we covet – something we can put in the extra effort to earn. A wager is definitely a gentleman’s agreement between two respectable opponents – men who have reached the pinnacle of success, like Greg and Monna,” Shayna Amaidas, assistant brand manager at Johnnie Walker, said when explaining how the campaign inspired Maloka to put in the extra effort to earn the car of his dreams.
