Getting into the rhythm of business

The recent success of young DJs Ed Soul and Fang da Rythym is garnered from years of friendship and a professional work relationship.

The two started DJing while still in high school and through determination and dedication to their art, the duo has managed to turn their hobby into a career.

“Before we started DJing, Fang and I would always have discussions about music we’d heard the night before on one of our favourite shows on radio at the time,” said EdSoul.

“Fang started by first collecting vinyls at Soul Candi store when he was in high school and I joined him after a while.”

EdSoul explained how it didn’t take long for him and Fang da Rythym to realise there was a spark between them when they would play one-on-one.

“There was an energy and a flame that came from it, so we decided to form Rythym Sessions and have not turned back since,” he said.

Since then, the DJs have worked their way onto one of the most popular regional radio stations, Kaya FM, and have also broadened their resumes from simply being DJs to exploring the business world of music.

The duo recently started their own house music monthly events in Johannesburg

“Going out to other music events, Fang and I began getting bored of the scene and realised there was a gap in the music industry for the elite market,” said EdSoul.

“Whenever we would play at parties, people would compliment us and tell us how it had been a while since they had heard the kind of music we play.”

He explained how important it was for them to produce events that comprised of lots of energy and music from the past, present and future.

“The Rhythm Sessions Musical Experience lets you be one with the music. We want those who attend to feel free, let go and forget about all their problems. Our aim is to create a place where like-minded people can get together and mingle,” he said.
