Setting fire to the airwaves
JOBURG - New kid in the music industry, Okmalumkoolkat has been setting fire to the airwaves with his collaboration with Tellaman on their smash hit Drinks and Music and on his very own single Holy Oxygen – and now he's at it again.
Directed by Arcade Content’s Lebogang Rasethaba, the Nice Shandees music video, a collaboration with Sibot, has been dubbed by Hype magazine as the best music video to come out of the country this year.
The already-popular music video is not the first time that the three artists have worked together – previously collaborating on an acclaimed documentary directed by Rasethaba.
The doccie titled Future Sounds of Mzansi is a post-apartheid feature that celebrates the electronic musicians of the time.
What has set this music video apart from the rest is the way that Rasethaba has created what can only be described as digital art, rather than your standard music video.
He gives credit to the artists on the track, though, explaining that he would not have been able to create such an outstanding piece were it not for their lyrics.
“Nice Shandees… features one of our favourite South African rappers, Okmalumkoolkat. He is also one of the weirdest rappers in SA, if not the world, and his quirky flow works wonders with the spaces in Sibot’s synth-heavy beat,” said Afropop, a worldwide radio programme and online magazine focused on African music.
Okmalumkoolkat will no doubt continue to make waves in the South African music industry.
