Wayne Hussey in SA!
JOHANNESBURG - Wayne Hussey, the legendary British rock star and frontman and founder of the UK band, The Mission, will be back in town for his Live and Up Close tour.
Hussen and The Mission are no strangers to South African shores, having been here on previous, sold-out tours. “’This’ll be my 5th time in South Africa and I’ve always had a great time there, and have always been made to feel very welcome,” he said. Hussey will take to the stage to perform songs from his new album, Songs of Candlelight and Razorblades, a few of the Mission’s hits and some surprises along the way.
Over the course of his career, Hussey has had a total of 14 consecutive Top 40 UK hits with songs like Butterfly on a Wheel, Lose myself in You, Like a Hurricane and more, so the release of his new album has been highly anticipated. He promises that the shows will follow the form of his recent European tour and will feature songs from his new album, classic and lesser known songs, as well as a selection of suitably maverick and idiosyncratic cover versions.
Local-born singer Ashton Nyte, the voice behind the band The Awakening, will be the 30 minute, intimate opening act for Hussey’s tour here in South Africa. Another treat for the crowd will be special guest appearances by David Beretta Owens and Jay Wilton, the two front men from the successful alternative ’80s tribute show, Hey Now, Hey Now.
Catch Hussey at the Barnyard Theatre in Rivonia on 8 and 9 May and in Cape Town on 11 May. Both shows start at 8pm and tickets cost R300.
