Get into the swing of things
HOUGHTON – The Big Band Music Appreciation Society would like to invite lovers of swing to their monthly meeting where the glamour of the 30s and 40s will be brought back to life.
“Our next meeting will be held at St John’s College Auditorium on St David Road in Houghton, as per usual, on 6 September,” said society representative Marilyn Pein.
“The event begins at 2.15pm sharp.”
A movie called Big Bands in Hollywood will be screened first, followed by an audio presentation by Dave Goldstein which will comprise many recordings from the golden age of percussion, brass and woodwind instruments.
“Some of these recordings became very popular during World War II,” Pein concluded.
