More than just a looker

LINKSFIELD - The Sowetan Live sexiest man of 2011 has proven himself to be far more robust than frail good looks.

Chris Jaftha, a talent to keep an eye on, began his artistic pursuits as a fine arts student, but soon was drawn to the dramatic side of performance art.

Jaftha studied fine art at the National School of the Arts between 2000 and 2002, but he hasn’t used those skills since then.

He began his acting career, unlike many professional actors, after school while volunteering as an actor in workshop productions aimed at raising awareness around HIV/Aids. When he finished those productions, Jaftha decided to audition for African Footprint and landed a part in the popular dance theatre extravaganza.

After a performance in the Aladdin pantomime more than 18 months ago, Jaftha was noticed and later received a call to audition for West Side Story. He decided to audition, got the part, and has since gone on to play a leading role in a Cape Town production of the classic musical.

“I love everything that I do,” said Jaftha.

“But I get the most fulfillment from film.”

Jaftha has been on a couple of local TV shows on SABC, which culminated in an appearance on Isidingo – The Need. He has also featured in a TV show called Roer Jou Voete, which has a six-month run from June.
