Virtuoso to provide a royal recital

PARKTOWN – Virtuoso organist Christian Wilson will be bringing the gospel of good music to St George’s Anglican Church on 11 September.

Wilson is renowned for his engaging performances which blend the historic repertoire of the organ with original juxtapositions infused with a jazzy flavour. He has transcribed pieces from a variety of musicians including Bach and Frank Zappa.

The virtuoso began his musical career at Westminster Abbey as head chorister, or the lead in a choir. This was followed by a year as sub-organist at Perth Cathedral in Western Australia. Wilson then took up the Organ Scholarship at Christ Church in Oxford, England.

He is currently the organist at The Chapels Royal in the Tower of London and assistant organist at Christ Church in Oxford. Wilson maintains a busy life as an active pianist, chamber musician, and teacher.

He will don his teaching hat on 12 September for a half-day choral course at St George’s Anglican Church under the auspices of the Royal School of Church Music.

Wilson’s performances are highly acclaimed at major concert venues across Europe, Russia, Australia and the United States.
