Entertainment from the heart Cat sings Judy Garland

HOUGHTON - Cat Simoni performed to bring happiness to her audience members.

Using some theatrics to re-enact some of Judy Garland’s famous hits and life, Cat Simoni with Paul Spence entertained the audience at the Rabbi Cyril Harris Community Centre in Houghton recently.

She showcased all the classic Garland signature songs that defined her turbulent career from The Boy Next Door, The Trolley Song and Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart to Get Happy, Silver Lining and The Man That Got Away.

The whole show was written and directed by Paul Spence and left the audience begging for an encore. “Music feeds the soul; just like someone needs to eat they need music in their life too. It unites people in so many ways by allowing them to share experiences and memories. Knowing that we can bring light into the lives of our audience is a feeling that just cannot be described,” said Spence.

“Tonight, in particular, was great as we got to sing to some elderly people which brought them such joy. It sparked some happy memories and took them on a nice journey down memory lane,” said Simoni.

The show was set in early December 1963. The President of the United States had just been shot in Dallas and Judy Garland, troubled star of the golden era of MGM movies, then in her 40s, was back in concert at Carnegie Hall.

“Tonight was definitely time well spent. [Cat] was simply wonderful and entertaining,” said Mervyn Guy an audience member.

Robyn Blumenthal said Simoni was a true all-rounder as her whole family was entertained, including her young daughter.
