VOICES OF JOBURG: Working in Newtown
JOHANNESBURG – Find out what workers in Newtown say about others in the area.
Two men who work at Newtown Junction spoke to City Buzz about their fun times at the venue.
“Hello,” said the gentleman in white.
“Hello, can you take a picture of me – of me and my friend,” he asked City Buzz.
Having explained to the man that he would have to give us a great story, City Buzz took a photograph of the eager pair.
The two gentlemen opted not to give us their names due to the fact that they were on the job at the popular new shopping mall.
“We work here,” said the man in white.
“Yes, I work at Shoprite, just inside, and this guy works outside here looking at the people and making sure that everything is alright here at this mall,” the man from Shoprite explained.
City Buzz asked the man who worked at Shoprite why he was outside the mall rather than inside the store.
“No, I’m just sitting outside here to see my friend and we talking about work and the people that he’s seen outside today,” explained the teller from the popular chain store. “This guy sees lots of funny people in this mall.”
When asked what constitutes funny, the gentleman in white responded, “These people who come here do funny things. There is a girl who sometimes doesn’t wear shoes when she comes to the shop. These car guards – some of them are on drugs so they say funny things and act differently when they come here.”
City Buzz inquired, “How sure are you that the car guards are on drugs. They watch the cars and sometimes wash them too, and they do a good job, so have you seen them doing drugs here?”
“No, no, but these ones they are funny over here,” the gentleman in white reiterated.
Unsure of the claims made by the men, City Buzz left them to their jobs.
