Thandiswa Mazwai to host a women-only festival

NEWTOWN - Thandiswa will host a woman-only festival on her birthday in Newtown.

To celebrate her birthday, Thandiswa Mazwai will host a night of market, poetry, talks and music for women only.

This event will take place on 31 March at the Newtown Music Factory, formally known as Bassline, and will feature a line-up of guest speakers and performers – all women.

King Tha, as she is known by many of her fans, said the event, #AmandlaWomxnFest, is a celebration of the resilience and strength of all women. “It is an attempt to strengthen the sisterhood and together imagine new worlds. We will come together in one space to celebrate our unique power,” she said.

Speakers at this fun-packed event will include Prof Pumla Dineo Gqola, Bev Ditsie and Milisuthando Bongela.

Thandiswa’s sister, Ntsiki and Standard Bank Young Artist Award winner, Thandi Ntuli will warm up the stage before King Tha performs.

“All who identify as womxn or are gender non-conforming are welcome at King Tha Day. I have chosen to share my birthday with a room full of women to bask in their power and magic.

“On the night, we will create a supernova – we will shine a thousand times brighter than the sun and our light will be seen for a billion years to come.”
