Asa, Mr Eazi to headline the Bassline Fest this Africa Day
CONSTITUTIONAL HILL– Calling all Afro-fuse fanatics to the Baseline Festival.
A buzz is coming to Constitutional Hill which sets to see 12 of the continent’s freshest entertainers raise the bar at this year’s Bassline Festival in celebration of Africa Day on 25 May.
The Africa Day celebrations are a musical experience aimed at showcasing African music, culture and diversity as Nigeria’s Asá [asha] and Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade also known as ‘Mr Eazi’ are among the artists who are headlining the festival.
Asa is a Nigerian who was born in Paris and has become an artist in Lagos. Her musical sense is fuelled on the old-school soul. Asa entered the music scene in 2007 with her namesake album titled Asa with international hit songs such as Jailer and Fire on the Mountain. She has gone on to become synonymous with quality music set apart from the usual pop offerings her country is known for.
Mr Eazi is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and entrepreneur. He is the pioneer of Banku music, a fusion sound he describes as a mixture of Ghanaian highlife and Nigerian chord progressions and patterns. He showed interest in music after recording a guest verse on My Life, a song that gained traction and became a popular record at KNUST. Mr Eazi released his debut mixtape, About to Blow, in July 2013. He gained an international audience following the release of his 2015 single, Skin Tight.
With an under a 25-year celebratory theme, the festival will not only celebrate Africa day but also a milestone of 25 years of democracy in the country, as well as the celebration of Bassline’s silver jubilee.
The festival forms part of the Johannesburg leg of the Igoda Festival Circuit as festivals represented by the circuit include Azgo Festival– Mozambique, MTN Bushfire – Swaziland, Zakifo Festival – Durban, Sakifo Festival – Reunion Island.

Other artists joining the festival are Dobet Gnahore (Ivory Coast); Buhlebendalo, from the soil (South Africa); Granmah (Mozambique); Blinky Bill (Kenya); Lindigo (Reunion); Sobantwana (South Africa); Alibombo (Columbia); Maia & the big sky (Kenya); TRC (Mandla Mlangeni Stb Jazz artist of the year) and Isabella Novella (Mozambique).
Early bird tickets are available via bassline.co.za priced at only R250. General access will go at R350, golden circle R450 and children under 12 years old R150.
