Sibongile Khumalo and friends set to jazz up Montecasino

MONTECASINO - South Africa's first lady of song will perform in one memorable concert at the Teatro on 20 September.

Musical legend Sibongile Khumalo will join fellow jazz greats Kabomo Vilakazi, Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse and Mimi Ntenjwa onstage at Montecasino in a precursor to Heritage Day on 24 September, which appropriately happens to be Khumalo’s birthday.

Khumalo’s extensive singing talents range from opera to jazz, choral music and musical theatre, but her style is eternally grounded in the traditional and folk music of South Africa. Winner of the Standard Bank Young Artist award for music in 1993, she is now lauded as one of the great singing talents of her time, and has inspired South African composers in both the classical and jazz genres.

Khumalo’s appearance at Montecasino is the final stage of the road to Standard Bank’s Joy of Jazz, to take place at the Sandton Convention Centre from 25 to 27 September, produced by T-Musicman and sponsored by Standard Bank in association with the Department of Arts and Culture; the City of Joburg, Gauteng Province and South African Tourism.
