Volunteers pack food for orphans at Sandton Convention Centre

SANDTON – Volunteers from Ansari Youth Club (AYC) in Gauteng recently converged on the Sandton Convention Centre to pack food for orphans as part of the club's Youth Development Foundation initiative.

The packing session, organised by Stop Hunger Now South Africa, saw 65 volunteers from the club, which focuses on providing motivation and encouragement to the youth, pack food for orphaned schoolchildren who are in the foundation phase of their schooling.

Zeenith Lakhi, chapter head of AYC Gauteng, said the event was a massive success because of the amount of food which was packed.

“We packed 15 000 meals in 90 minutes [and] within our group, we had children from an orphanage that came out to help support other orphans and packed [meals] for them,” Lakhi said.

Following the massive packing, the volunteers were then treated to lunch and an entertaining Lego show at Sandton City.
