Suspected carjacker fatally wounded in Morningside

A carjacker was fatally wounded after he and a group of men allegedly hijacked a motor vehicle in Morningside on 1 July.

According to Sandton Police Station’s spokesperson, Captain Granville Meyer, the deceased suspect and his accomplices accosted the victim by blocking her vehicle with two other motor vehicles. “An on-duty security guard caught them in the act. A shoot-out unfolded and one of the suspects were fatally wounded while he was in one of the other cars used by the suspects during the commission of the crime,” he said.

The other suspects sped off with the hijacked car which was later recovered in Alexandra.
