Police officer gunned down in Sandton
SANDTON — The officer was taken to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries upon arrival.
A police officer was gunned down in Sandton on December 9 following a shooting incident on Katherine Street.
According to national spokesperson for the South Africa Police Service (SAPS) Colonel Athlenda Mathe, the officer was driving along Katherine Street when he was gunned down by a group of suspects.
“The suspects are alleged to have robbed the member of his service pistol and other items before fleeing the scene in a getaway vehicle.”
The officer was taken to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries upon arrival.
An investigation has been launched into the incident.
SAPS General Khehla John Sitole condemned the attack and sent his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.
“The motive for the incident is the central focus of our investigation. We will not rest until those who are behind this brazen attack have been apprehended”, said Sitole.
The SAPS are appealing to motorists and other eye witnesses to come forward and assist investigations by calling the crime stop hotline number on 086 00 10111 or downloading the MySAPS App on any smart phone.
