Celebrating the Sounds of Africa
Spotify celebrates Africa Day with the launch of its Sounds of Africa podcast with the host of six of the continents trending podcasters.
Africa’s creators who are making their voices heard and showing the world what the continent has to offer, came together to celebrate Africa Day.
In Hyde Park on May 25, Spotify hosted the likes of Kenya’s Mantalk.ke and The Sandwich Podcast, Nigeria’s I Said What I Said and Tea with Tay and South Africa’s True Crime ZA and After School is After School with Sis G.U as part of its Sounds of Africa podcast campaign.

According to Spotify sub-Saharan Africa managing director Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy, this was the first of many initiatives by the streaming service aimed at promoting African talent.
“We would like to highlight even more African creators on an even bigger scale, to ensure that the whole world knows that Africa is not just a singular moment, it is here to stay, it is the moment,” said Muhutu-Remy.

The evening also saw the announcement of the Africa Podcast Grant to help highlight voices from all across the continent.
A $100 000 (about R1.5 million) grant will be given to 10 creators that are telling Africa’s story, amplifying underrepresented stories and perspectives in podcasting.
