Nurturing a generation of innovators and problem-solvers

Every learner was rewarded in some way by the education department. From backpacks to medals, robotics kits, and even R5000 gift vouchers. The top learner earned a R30 000 reward for their school.

In celebration of innovation and creativity, Hyde Park High School hosted a remarkable Robotics Expo and Technology Olympiad.

The event showcased the extraordinary talents of young minds in the field of technology; it brought together learners from many districts, offering a glimpse into the exciting future of robotics and engineering.

Hyde Park High School’s communication secretary, Avril Wright, said, “The expo was a hub of activity, with several exhibitors displaying a dazzling array of robotic creations and robotic kits.”

She added that from high-resolution data projectors to visualizers with precision cameras, and from Google AI to programming software, the event was a testament to the limitless possibilities of technology.

“One of the highlights of the expo was the Technology Olympiad, where learners competed in a series of challenging questions in the final round. The atmosphere was electric as learners raced against the clock to compete for the top position.”

She explained that the event also featured guest speakers from the technology industry, sharing their experiences and insights into the world of robotics and AI, as well as Education Department officials.

“They inspired the learners in attendance and emphasised the importance of innovation in today’s world.”

Emily Matlou, the senior education specialist was the programme director for the event.
