The award, presented at the Whistleblowers Awards Gala in Pretoria on October 23, honours individuals who have shown exceptional courage, integrity, and a commitment to justice.

Walker, a Middle School teacher and grade head, was one of only four recipients of the prestigious award presented at the Maslow Hotel Time Square in Menlyn.

The event gathered distinguished guests, high-profile leaders, and advocates for transparency and accountability, recognising those who have significantly contributed to the fight for justice.

Redhill communications manager Shelli Nurcombe-Thorne said, “We are exceptionally proud of Danielle and what she models for others, particularly for the learners within her care. She embodies our core value of courage and shows our students what it means to be an upstander instead of a bystander.”

Walker said, “My award was for reporting a suspected predator at a previous place of employment and helping to ensure accountability in education by protecting vulnerable learners and upholding ethical standards. It means a lot to now be part of the Redhill community, where safeguarding is a top priority.”

She added that it was inspiring to work in a place that values children’s safety above reputation, which is so different from her previous experience.
