The search was on for the elusive elf at the Field and Study Park Christmas Market?
Parents and children spent their time searching for an elusive Christmas elf at the Field and Study Park holiday-themed November market, with their eyes firmly set on the Christmas sucker prize if they found it.
The latest Field and Study Park Saturday market, held in Parkmore on November 9, presented a world of practical fun, with a traditional element of adventure added into the mix of stalls and exhibitions.
A key aspect of the Christmas edition of the market was the elf-search, hosted for the little ones, a game akin to Where’s Waldo, but played at the outdoor market, searching for a mischievous little Christmas elf. In addition there were horse rides, and an assortment of original treats, like homemade, chocolate-coated, peppermint marshmallow squares, everywhere you turned.

“It’s for the kids to have fun while the parents are shopping. They look around for this elf, a small thing that moves around during the day. They come tell us where they found it, and we give them a Christmas sucker pop if they’re right,” said Tracy Nanani, at the market’s information stand.

Marketeer Adri De Klerk was a huge help to the kids, explaining exactly what it was they should be on the lookout for. “I think you’re looking for a small, doll-sized little Christmas elf,” De Klerk advised one of the elf-hunters. “Just take a look. He might be sitting on a little shelf somewhere.”
Finding the elf was harder than it seemed though, as we were told by Kerry Archer, and her daughter Ollie.
“We haven’t been able to find it yet,” Archer said. “I think it’s the same size as the elf-on-the-shelf ones that generally arrive on December 1 in our house.” So, even familiarity with the elf wasn’t helping with the search. Even so, fun was had by all the searchers, and for the lucky ones that found the elf a sweet treat was in store.
