The Grade 9 learners at Brescia House School transformed their classroom knowledge into real-world experience during their market day.
The event is a highlight on the school’s calendar and was designed as a practical extension of the economic and management sciences and business studies curriculum, allowing learners to put theory into action.
According to the HOD of business studies Nozi Sikhakhane, in preparation for the day, the learners worked in groups to develop business proposals, with each group tasked with creating, marketing, and selling their products.
“From brainstorming product ideas to crafting detailed business plans, the girls embraced the challenge enthusiastically and creatively,” she said.
The products on show ranged from homemade crafts and baked goods to innovative gadgets and personalised accessories, showcasing the diversity of their ideas.
She added that the market day was a resounding success, with learners managing to attract a steady stream of customers throughout the event.
“One of the key takeaways for the students was the importance of having enough stock to meet customer demand. Many groups quickly learnt that popular items sold out faster than expected, leading to the realisation that planning and preparation are crucial in business.”
She praised the learners for their dedication and hard work.
