Comedy’s rising stars joke it out at the 2025 Savanna Newcomer Showcase in Sandton
From sharp wit to awkward silences, the 2025 Savanna Newcomer Showcase proved there's more to comedy than just punchlines.
The 2025 Savanna Newcomer Showcase, held in Sandton on January 26, was a sold-out hit, drawing a packed crowd for a night of comedy hosted by award-winning comedian Tumi Morake.
The event featured 20 of South Africa’s freshest comedic talents, each performing a five-minute set in hopes of earning a nomination for the prestigious Newcomer Award at the upcoming Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards.
The showcase began with Callum Hitchcock, last year’s newcomer winner, setting a high standard for the performers.
Throughout the night, newcomers delivered a range of comedy, from sharp wit to self-deprecating humour, with the occasional awkward silence adding to the fun. Comedy heavyweights like Mpho Popps, Robbie Collins, and Celeste Ntuli were also present, offering mentorship and support.
