Redhill’s prize goalkeeper dominates at IberCup
Representing Coach Tshiama Soccer Academy, Jamie Bolon, from Redhill School, is setting his sights on a professional football career in the future, after an unforgettable tournament win.
Over the holidays, 8-year-old footballer Jamie Bolon, from Redhill School, made an impressive mark at the prestigious IberCup, held in South Africa for the first time.
Representing Coach Tshiama Soccer Academy, Jamie’s remarkable skills as a goalkeeper helped his team dominate the U8 division, remaining undefeated, and ultimately winning the tournament.
Speaking with the Sandton Chronicle, Jamie shared his excitement of being part of such a large international event. “It was pretty fun because I love to play football.”

But it was not all smooth sailing. In the group stages, Jamie faced a nail-biting 1v1 with a player from Kempton Park, but he managed to save the shot, securing his team’s advancement.
The toughest moment came during a match against Durban Eagles. “My team was struggling to score, and I knew I had to keep a clean sheet for us to win. It felt amazing when we won 1–0 and made it to the semi-finals.”

He added that his preparation for the tournament was intense, with nightly training sessions leading up to the event. “I just kept imagining that we would win.”

Jamie said that the highlight of the tournament came when he received the winner’s trophy from South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Gayton McKenzie. “I felt excited. I could not wait to celebrate with my teammates.”
Jamie stated that he drew inspiration from his captain and his ambition is to be a professional goalkeeper and own a football club.
