Hyde Park High School celebrates exceptional 2024 achievements
Yongama Magula and Walina and Wanita Luwawu led the way as the top achievers of 2024, making their mark in the IEB examinations with distinctions and high accolades.
It was with immense pride and joy that Hyde Park High School hosted their annual honours evening. An event, according to the principal, Melanie Kalli, which took place in the Thurman Hall, and was attended by the top academic achievers, as well as top sportsmen and women of 2024, and their parents.

The school continues to write the IEB matric examinations, the only government school in South Africa to do so. It celebrated three pupils achieving in the top 1% for engineering graphics and design, mathematics, and business studies.

“The matric boys dux of 2024, Yongama Magula, achieved five distinctions, as well as an A aggregate. He was also placed in the top 1% of engineering graphics design learners who wrote the IEB 2024 examinations.”
The principal added that Yongama will be studying a BSC in Engineering, and attributes his success to the enormous support given to him by teachers and staff at the school, as well as being focused on his future and dreaming big.
“The girl’s dux 2024 was shared between Walina Luwawu and Wanita Luwawu, each achieving seven distinctions and A aggregates. Walina was placed in the top 1% of IEB mathematics students. Both will be studying a BSC in Engineering in Canada with Walina specialising in electrical engineering and Walina specialising in civil engineering.”
