Bargeoise Brazil is pink from head to toe
Since 2017, Bargeoise Brazil has lived a pink lifestyle, with everything from food to décor having to be pink. 'Pink is calm, bold, and loud at the same time, just like me'.
While most people may dabble in a splash of colour here and there, Bargeoise Brazil, formerly known as Barbie Brazil, from Bryanston, has taken her love for pink to a whole new level – one where every inch of her life, from clothing to cuisine, furniture to face cream, lives in a rose-tinted hue.
Brazil said she had always loved and adored the colour pink, but never thought one day she will wake up and decide to go full blown everything pink. “Pink is calm, bold, and loud at the same time, just like myself. From my home, to its décor, appliances, food, beverages, head to toe clothing and accessories, etc. Besides, to me monochromatic is fabulous, as opposed to colour blocking, which makes one appear like an overly decorated Christmas tree. Also, I just don’t like being matched. It upsets me”
Her transition began in 2017, a bold move where she shed all non-pink items as if they were committing adultery. What ensued was a comprehensive overhaul of her life: furniture painted pink, clothing dyed, even appliances replaced to fit her pink philosophy. “It wasn’t easy, transforming to this much pink overnight. I had to get rid of all non-pink things because they, then, meant nothing to me.
“I tried bleaching my pre-existing favourite white clothes, together with the new ones, and then dying them pink, but they immediately looked too old, so I gave them all away, together with shoes, handbags, and accessories.”
Her journey towards embracing the pink lifestyle came with challenges. After purging a significant portion of her wardrobe and décor, Brazil designed her new home from the ground up, filling it with handmade pink furniture, décor, and even kitchen appliances. “It was a costly and time-consuming endeavour, but worth it. My late husband used to say I was going through an early midlife crisis, with a dash of looney.”

While you would wonder how her family and friends reacted to such a dramatic change, Brazil keeps it real. “What friends? Do I need those? My family has always found me to be eccentric, so I can be as obscene as I want and all they’ll say is: ‘She has started’, and then let me be.”
Her biggest cheerleader is her son. “He’s like his late father, always encouraging me and pointing out anything fabulous and pink he sees.”
She said her favourite meal is pink, fluffy, mashed-potatoes, grilled salmon, and a pink garlic sauce.
She added that she is known to carry food colouring in her purse, and politely request chefs and bartenders to pink-iffy her meals and drinks when dining out. However, she barely leaves home anymore. “I no longer frequent restaurants and hotels to annoy waiters and chefs about pink meals, pink gin, pink tonic, etc. Offering them food colouring from my purse for my food, or them having to go get it from shops when they don’t have beetroot juice.”

Her signature look, and glowing skin, aren’t just for the gram. The cyber buzz around her transformation helped launch her Bourgeoisie Boutique skin-lightening brand in 2014, a venture she said was born from personal experience and research after her post-pregnancy skin tone changed. “People dragged me online for lightening my skin, but, instead of giving away my secrets, I turned the mockery into a business. The best revenge is paper.
“I’ve heard people in public say they thought my pictures were photo shopped, that my pink pooches were fake, and that I’m just a grown woman pretending to be a Barbie because I didn’t have dolls growing up. I find it entertaining. The eye-rollers are my amusement toys.”

While Brazil has already ticked a major box with her beauty brand, her ambition is still running hot pink. “I won’t reveal too much, but one of my dreams has always been to own a pink liquor brand. That one’s no secret.”
At the core of Brazil’s pink empire is a message of bold self-expression and fearlessness. “If you see it and want it – go take it. If it lives in your imagination, bring it to life and live in it. It’s your world. You can do whatever.”
